Give them the online memorial they deserve
Let’s face it, newspaper obituaries are going straight into the recycle bin and most funeral home obituary sites don’t provide the elegance or modern features we expect in today’s digital age. We want to change that. Our memorials are not only beautiful but also come with a promise to stand the test of time both in terms of aesethics but also longevity.
Our one-time cost covers a lifetime of hosting so that once it’s published, you can be assured their memory will last forever.
We want your memorial to stay beautiful for years to come, which is why we’ve crafted it to automatically update the design over the years.
Let others contribute to telling their story. Invite friends and family to share their own memories, photos, and even videos on the memorial.
We believe that part of telling rich stories involves using high resolution images which is why we require photos to be at least 2MB.
When the time comes to make the official announcemnt, we make sure your memorial is optimized for Facebook and Twitter.
Great design doesn’t have to be difficult. With our simple step-by-step creation process, memorials can be finished in 10-15 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can you ensure these profiles will actually live on forever?
For obvious factors only known by the universe itself, we can’t guarantee true infinity. However it is our belief, mission, and goal to provide a platform for your memorials to live on forever. How long is forever? Good existential question. What we do know is that our mission is to host these memories on the web for as long as possible. A percentage of the one-time fee gets stored in a separate “future fund” to cover hosting fees in the rare case that the platform can no longer continue taking on new users. In addition, it is our core philosophy to never use these memorials to sell private information or embed advertisements.
Why do you require 2MP photos and what does that mean?
Above all, we want your memorial to be beautiful. We require 2MP because the design of our memorials require a minimum size to maintain the elgance and reverence your loved one deserves. When we look at most obituaries out there today, we see mostly small, thumbnail sized pics that are often low in quality. We want to set the bar higher. In today’s standards, most camera’s shoot a minimum of 4MB and old photographs can be scanned in at an even higher resolution. Also, we want to encourage our users to consider using lifestyle images that capture the candid essence of their beloved instead of “professional portraits.” Also consider uploading photos from different eras of their life, not just the latest one you can find. What does 2MP equate to roughly 1200x1200 pixels.
How is this different from Facebook or their Legacy feature?
We often get asked, “Why wouldn’t I just use Facebook?” It’s a fair question, especially considering they have a Legacy feature built in for people that pass away. Our answer is two-fold. First, we believe Olition memorials are about capturing the essence of a person’s story. We believe this is best achieved through a thoughtfully written biography, curated images, and reverent stories others tell about the person, all in one elegantly designed web page. Facebook gives away everything—the good, the bad, and sometimes, the ugly. It’s our hope that these memorials live on to celebrate the best of a person’s life, without the clutter of meaningless banter. Secondly, it’s core to our mission to sustain the hosting of these memorials forever. We understand this is a daunting concept but where other tech companies have failed, we aim to succeed in offering a platform that sets out to never go out of business, sell private information, or go out of style. We think of Olition as more of a universal time capsule instead of a social network.
What does it mean to have designs "evolve" over time?
One of the greatest challenges of creating any digital property or website is the task of keeping it up to date. We want your memorial to look beautiful today, tomorrow and for years to come. This is why the core design will change over time to meet the design trends of the day but also the medium in which they’re delivered. Imagine decades from now when holographic screens may be the standard—your memorial will still be as elegant and reverent as the day you made it. The best part is, we’ll do it for you, forever.
Who can I create a memorial for?
The short answer is, anyone. This means a relative, friend, or even a pet. We don’t even mind if there are multiple memorials for the same person. Some may be wondering about creating memorials for their favorite celebrity. To this point, we’d like to suggest not creating any memorial for someone you don’t actually have a one degree relationship with and would like to furthermore encourage users to communicate with other family members before they move forward with the purchase to prevent the need for unnecessary duplicates and potential refunds. In the near future, we will be releasing a “Verified” status for memorials to be vetted for their authenticity via a bonafide executor.
